London to New York flight Grounded after engineers downloads wrong map

According to reports engineers of British Airways downloaded a wrong map into the BRITISH Airways business class plane heading towards New York due to which the flight was stranded in Ireland.

Bungling British Airways engineers assumed that the New York-bound BA1 flight was headed for Europe as it was a small A318 Airbus, The Sun reported.

But the flight was actually the all-business from London City to John F Keneddy International Airport in New York City, a service that runs once a day.

It is the only A318 that makes that route.

The flight takes a stop in Ireland to fuel up and for passengers to pre-clear United States immigration before heading on to the Country.

But on Friday (10 February) pilots stopped off in Shannon, Ireland and realized that only Europe maps were installed in the aircraft.

Crew members tried to download the correct mapping data, but they were unable to, leaving a couple of dozen passengers stranded in Shannon.

The Airlines then put all the passengers up in a hotel overnight and it eventually set off the next day.

While stuck on the ground in Shannon, one passenger said: “Trying to find a way to explain this rather funny situation!!

He said that they cannot fly back to the city as they had too much fuel, and cannot fly to New York as no maps were available. So we are all stranded in Limerick, Ireland, he said.

A spokesperson for the British Airways said: “We apologised to customers and provided them with accommodation following an overnight delay to their flight.”
