Airline braces monster snowstorms

Due to the powerful winter storm hitting the region over 2,300 flights have been canceled at Newark liberty International airport, LaGuardia and Kennedy international airport.

Governor Andrew Cuomo during a press conference on Thursday (9th Feb) said the situation at the airports were ugly for lack of a better word.

At a point all the flights in and out of Kennedy Airport were ordered to hold on the ground, while the crew cleared the runways.

As the storm approached the region, all the flights in the New York metro area and other northeastern states were cancelled.

On Thursday at 4:30 p.m. all the arriving flights into Newark Liberty International were delayed by 2 hours and flights into Kennedy Airport were subject to delays of nearly five hours.

Port Authority spokesperson Steve Coleman said that they were trying to get the word out as best they can to all their travelers today to make sure to call their carrier in advance to make sure that they do not go to the airport and have a flight that’s already cancelled.

AS the storm winds come down flight’s activity will pick up again at Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty, Coleman said.

A passenger was stuck aboard at a Delta plane bound for Miami International Airport spoke to local news on Thursday morning.

She said that unfortunately, they pulled out and they were waiting to de-ice — she said they pulled out on time…and the auxiliary engines would not turn on.”

She said “Next thing you know, all the TVs went off, all the power went off on the plane.” “No Florida for us today,” she added.

By the end of the day the storm was expected to dump more than a foot of snow on some parts of the New York City.

The majority of flights were canceled at Philadelphia International Airport.

Most flights in and out of Bradley International Airport in Connecticut were also canceled.

The National Weather Service predicted that New York the city could see 8 to 12 inches of snow. Near whiteout conditions are also possible, with snow expected to fall at a clip of 2 to 4 inches per hour at the storm’s height.
