ALBANY- Embracing a statewide ban on single use plastic bags, Gov Andrew M. Cuomo, announced on introducing a bill to out law them by upcoming year.
The bill consisting of three pages, which was introduced by the Governor a immediate day after earth day, making it to get implemented after a year of passing the bill. It was most awaited moment for the New York citizens who sought to place on single plastic bags.
The statement made during the announcement of passing the bill described that the measure was taken to eradicate the “blight of plastic bags” that is taking a devastating toll on our streets, our water and exploiting natural resources. Said Mr.Cuomo.
Gov Cuomo who got elected for second term as a Democrat is seeking re-election in the fall quoted in the adage that
We did not inherit the earth, we are merely borrowing it from our children.”
His democratic challenger, Cynthia Nixon also used a similar type of sentiment on Friday to expose her views on the climate platform, which also included embrace on the bill being passed from the state assembly making the state to be 100 percent renewable by 2050, the same plan failed to get attention in the senate of the state.
If the bill gets unanimously passed then the state may join California, which approved state wide ban in the year 2016.
But the decision seems to be on uncertain path in the senate, where all the Leaders of the state Assembly and senate opposed the bill. A spokes person for Assembly speaker Mr. Carl E Heastie, said that the Assembly had been generally supportive but not a fee.
The speaker ensured supporting the ban of unnecessary plastic waste and promised to review the proposal, said the spokesman, Micheal Whyland.
The measure may face a tough challenge in the senate as it is being run by Republicans.
