Kamala Harris Very Much Qualified to Run for U.S. President: NJ Gov

Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy on Wednesday said Indian American Senator Kamala Harris, who is running for the 2020 presidential elections, is an outstanding leader and very much qualified to run for the post of the United States President.

Murphy, in an interview with PTI when asked for his opinion on the Harris' candidature, said there were probably 12 to 15 candidates in the Democratic Party running for the U.S. President and many of them are very qualified and Kamala Harris certainly is one of them.

He said he is with is the state and he believes his favorite senator Cory Booker is terrific. But he says Kamala Harris is an outstanding leader as well.

The governor of New Jersey was in India to take part in the Sustainable Innovation Summit 2019 organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce.

The 54-year-old Harris officially launched her campaign for the United States presidential election in 2020 to take on President Donald Trump.

On asking about the possibilities of an Indian origin senator becoming the United States president, the Governor said anything is possible in the USA. He said the Indian community is one of the most important in America, in their democracy. So he said he thinks anything is still possible in the United States.

The U.S. state signed a sister state agreement with the government of Telangana in India which included a wide range of sectors in which both the states hope to bolster public and private sector collaboration including clean tech cooperation, an official release said. The governor said the two states would work together in education and business opportunities.

The official release further said the two states will advance their relations in the fields of Information Technology, Pharma, Life Sciences, Biotech, FinTech, Data Centers, Clean Energy, Higher Education, and Tourism.
