Expert says it is important to take breaks and blink regularly while working on computer as most of them suffer from the symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). A recent study suggested that prolonged sitting at desk may increase risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

As 70% computer users suffer from the symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), it is crucial to take few measures to protect your health. Symptoms of CVS are eye strain, headaches, red eyes, double vision besides difficulty refocusing the eyes.

The London Vision Clinic professor Dan Reinstein said, "When we use a computer for long periods, we only blink around 4 - 7 times per minute. Our usual rate of blinking is more like 18 - 20 times per minute, so this is a significant reduction - it can cause symptoms such as dry eyes and blurred vision.”

Tips to prevent CVS

• Take short break at least once an hour
• Look away from computer regularly
• Maintain clean computer screen
• Blink regularly
• Adjust the height, angle and screen distance
• Environmental factors like fans and air-conditioning should looked into
• Avoid contact lenses while working on system
• Be hydrated
• Do not glare into windows or overhead lights
• Make sure your computer screen is steady
