New Jersey Governor Raises Minimum Wage to $15 Per Hour

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation on Monday that will raise the Minimum wage up to $15 per hour by 2014.

New Jersey is now the forth United states state to place its minimum wage on to $15.

The above legislation will step by step increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour over five years.

And the first hike in the wage from $8.85 to $10 is scheduled to take effect from July 1 just five months away.

Gov. Phil Murphy said, “It is a great day to make some history for New Jersey's working families.”

“And that's just what we're going to do. We've talked long enough about putting New Jersey on a responsible path to $15 an hour minimum wage. Today we start our way on this path.”

“For far too long, too many of our fellow New Jerseyans have been struggling to survive on wages that have not kept up

with the cost of living.Today we make our economy both fairer and stronger,” he added.

Governor Murphy signed the bill alongside Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver and Democratic legislative leaders.

Earlier, The governor Joined by Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin announced a deal on the higher wage last month following year long efforts by left-leaning groups and unions in the state to increase the wage.
