4 New Jersey Students Won Gates Scholarship

Four New Jersey students have won a prestigious Gates scholarship and will be heading to the graduate school in England.

According to a press release from the foundation, the group is among the 36 American students who were selected for the year 2017 class of Gates Cambridge Scholars at the University of Cambridge.

Penina Krieger studied at the Princeton University after graduating from Torah Academy in Wynnewood, Pa. Krieger will be studying biological science at the Cambridge University.

Chelsie Richie, who graduated from the Rutgers University, will be pursuing African studies at the Cambridge. She had attended Irvington High School.

Natasha Turkmani will focus on the energy technologies. The Princeton graduate studied at the National Cathedral School in the Washington, D.C.

Charlotte Williams, attended Princeton Day School before graduating from the Princeton University. She will be studying archeology at the Cambridge University.

The scholarship is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and recognizes both the academic achievement and also the social leadership.

The scholarships are awarded to the outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.

About 800 American candidates applied for the year 2017 scholarship.
