16 students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who had gone to the US seeking admission in US universities, have been deported from New York. The students, claimed that, they were being “Hassled” at the Hyderabad Airport, regarding some return ticket issue. All students had been kept waiting for over six hours at the airport in India.

The students have been landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport last night and said, airport authorities took longer time while checking their document, due to which they have to wait for hours at the airport. Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister, also landed at the airport at the same time. The parents of the victims, complained to him and ask for his involvement in the matter.

Mr. Mahmood Ali said to PTI that, “I asked the airline officials and also authorities to first allow the students to leave the airport. I told them they have already faced problems in the US. After I took up the matter, the students were allowed to leave the airport.” He also said that, some parents approached him regarding the authorities taking long interval during documentation checking process. One of the students told to Media that, “Despite having all the necessary documents in order, we have been sent back.  We are trying to know the exact reasons.” “US officials (at New York Airport) interrogated the Indian students,” he added. Another student,  told to a TV channel that,  “We have already spent Rs 3-4 lakh and now after being sent back it is a financial loss for us”.

Earlier, 19 students had been stopped by Air India from boarding its flight to San Francisco during December 21. The students were stopped at the international airport due to some “scrutiny” issue of two universities to which they have taken  admission. Although,  both  universities North Western Polytechnic Colleges in Fremont, California and Silicon Valley in San Jose, California had denied the  remark about being “blacklisted” by the US government.
