India out of Malaysia Masters following quarterfinal matches

P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal were crashed out of the Malaysia Masters after being outplayed in the quarterfinals, ending the country’s campaign here on Friday.

PV Sindhu took the court first on Friday and was knocked out by top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, of the Super 500 badminton tournament. Saina Nehwal has been knocked out by the Olympic champion Spaniard Carolina Marin.

Marin has taken just half-an-hour to dispose off the India’s challenge 8-21 7-21 which made Saina being knock off.

Sindhu being the Rio Olympics silver-medallist has been defeated by Tzu Ying who ranked second in the world with 21-16 21-16 in the quarterfinal and has extended her head-to-head record to 12-5.

After being lost to Tzu Ying in the French Open quarterfinals in October last year, this loss has been Sindhu’s second consecutive loss.

Tzu Ying gained an advantage of 1-0 in the first game 16-21 as Sindhu failed to captalise on her leads though she was erratic in the start.

The second game has been completely dominated from the beginning to the end by Tzu Ying.

Marin has outplayed though Saina and Marin were head-to-head with 6-6 before the Friday’s match.

The lead in the first game was taken by Marin at 10-6 as Saina who was London Olympics bronze-medallist has failed from the start.

Saina has committed many unforced errors in the second game which allowed Marin to easily win the match and take a place in the semi-finals.
