No Betting on Memorial Day in New Jersey, says Gov. Phil Murphy

New Jersey:
Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy made it clear that there won’t be any legal sports betting in New Jersey on Memorial Day.

Contempt the United States supreme court paved way for the sports betting and Monmouth park at the ready to accept best by memorial Day, May 28, New Jersey people will have to wait until a bill is passed to regulate the industry is signed into law.

Murphy accepts with the State Senate President Stephen Sweeney that New Jersey doesn’t need to hurry up into accepting bets.   

"The good news is that we're gonna look back on this X years from now and say this was an historic step in the right direction and we started it," Murphy said at a public event on Monday.

He added, "Whether it's within seven or 10 days of each other, I'm not necessarily obsessed with."

Though Supreme Court ruled on May 14 that states should legalize sports betting, Monmouth Park proclaimed that it won’t be ready by May 28 unless governor or Legislature told them to stand down.

The senate president introduced language to legislation to regulate industry saying, anyone who opens a sports betting operation in New Jersey before state enacts a law will be barred from accepting future bets on sports or games.

"I would just say this, we're working well with the legislative teams in both houses and we're trying to get this done as fast as possible," the governor said.

The legal sports betting will have to wait until June 7 and once the bill has been passed New Jersey people can start betting legally on football, basketball, baseball and many more.
